In terms of architecture, the Malaysian scenario is very diversed. This is because of the fact that while a lot of pre-war buildings are still being preserved in certain parts of the country, there are also high-rise buildings seen around the major towns and cities. Due to its colonial past, some buildings in Malaysia still reflects the traits of their predecessors like the British of which such buildings are still prominently displayed in around Penang, the Portuguese which can be found in around Malacca, the Dutch as well and many others. One notable architecture perhaps would be the Minagkabau, which is from Indonesia, with settlement in Negeri Sembilan. Such architecture is very common in the state and one very prominent landmark would be the National Museum.

In the major cities, for instance in Kuala Lumpur, one could still spot some pre-war buildings but a notable building would be the Petronas Twin Towers. Formerly the tallest building in the world, its 88 storey building is a marvel in its own right. The sky bridge that connects both buildings is known to be one of the hardest architectural achievements. It is one of the most visited location in the country by locals and international tourists alike.

Over in Penang, the pre-war buildings are one of its main attractions. One can appreciate the sculptures found in around the houses which is still very well kept.

In the villages, the old Kampung houses as it is called are unique in their own sense. Usually homed on top of stilts, they come naturally with large windows. Hard wood floors maintain the elevation of the homes to avoid being caught in floods while the large windows are used to keep the house cool from the warm tropical air.
